Ernestine Eva Turner

Ernestine Eva Turner, 94, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:40 P.M., Thursday, March 11, 2004 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Ernestine worked as a bookkeeper for a construction company.  She was of the Baptist faith.  She was a seventy-four year member of Eastern Star, a fifty year member of American Guild of Organists, and a former member of Somis Thursday Club in California and past President.  She had taught piano, was the church organist and choir director and had worked in music all of her life.  She had lived in St. Louis, MO and moved to California in 1942 then returned to Du Quoin in 1989.
She was born January 19, 1910 at Du Quoin, IL, the daughter of Frank E. and Martha E. (Revelle) Dry.
She married Walter Earl Garrett in October of 1940 in St. Louis, MO and he preceded her in death on December 25, 1961.  She then married Crell S. Turner in November of 1973 at Newbury Park, CA and he preceded her in death in January of 1981.
She is survived by one sister - Lois Koerner of Du Quoin, three nieces - Joyce Ward and husband Lawrence of Farmville, VA, Dr. Carolyn Dry of Champaign, IL, and Mona Melvin of Du Quoin, one nephew - Dr. Laurence Dry of Knoxville, TN, four great nephews and three great nieces and numerous great great nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one sister - Lulu Melvin, one brother - Laurence Dry and one nephew - Dean Melvin.
Funeral services were at 2:30 P.M., Monday, March 15, 2004 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating.
Friends called from 1 to 2:30 P.M., Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Du Quoin.
